Cannabis Briefs for August 31, 2021

August 31, 2021

•Phoenix, Arizona-based Tilt Holdings has partnered with the Shinnecock Indian Nation to establish vertically integrated cannabis operations on its tribal land on Long Island. Through a joint venture with the Shinnecock Nation’s cannabis firm Conor Green, Tilt will finance, build, and manage the operations of Little Beach Harvest, a cannabis company wholly owned by the Nation. Plans call for a 60,000 square foot cultivation and production facility, a two-story dispensary with drive-thru, and an adjacent social consumption lounge. The construction site, in the Hamptons, secures Tilt’s entry into New York before the market gets off the ground.

•Medical marijuana sales in Pennsylvania topped $120 million in July, according to data from the state’s Medical Marijuana Advisory Board. The figure represents a new monthly sales record, topping this past April’s previous high watermark. Sales have grown steadily in Pennsylvania since they began in 2018, and especially since the pandemic reached the U.S., topping $80 million for the first time in July 2020 and hovering there for months until March 2021, when sales jumped more than $20 million, breaking the $100 million barrier to reach approximately $118 million. Consumers have now purchased more than $2 billion of cannabis from dispensaries in Pennsylvania since sales began.
