Yellow Tail Marks Key Milestone, Adds Whiskey Barrel Expression
December 27, 2021Australian wine powerhouse Yellow Tail, created in 2001 as a partnership between Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits and Australia’s Casella Family, reached 13.5 million cases in global volume this year, as the brand marks its 20th anniversary. Yellow Tail has expanded from two founding products—Shiraz and Chardonnay—to 23 varietals distributed in over 60 countries worldwide. Newer releases have included Jammy Red Roo red blend, Sangria, low-cal and abv Pure Bright, and the new to market Whiskey Barrel.
After launching in 2001, Deutsch Family quickly propelled Yellow Tail to a prominent position in the U.S. wine market, with the brand becoming the largest imported wine brand by volume in the U.S., a title it retains today. “We set out to widen the appeal of wine to all consumers in the U.S., making it approachable, accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” said Deutsch Family chairman Bill Deutsch. “We are fortunate to have a unique, strong, and powerful global wine brand. I’m very excited for the next chapter—there is still so much opportunity for Yellow Tail.”—Danny Sullivan
