•Japan’s Hakkaisan Brewery has acquired a minority stake in New York-based Gotham Sake, which makes Japanese-style sake under the name Brooklyn Kura at a production facility at Industry City in Brooklyn. Hakkaisan is a leading maker of sake as well as shochu, plum sake, craft beer and koji amazake in Japan. Gotham was founded in 2016 as New York state’s first sake brewery by Brian Polen and Brandon Doughan, who serves as head brewer, and employs seven people at its small plant.

•Eugene, Oregon’s Wolf Spirit has announced The D12tance, the latest Bourbon from the Puncher’s Chance brand. The 12-year-old whiskey is sourced from IJW Whiskey Company and bottled at 47% abv after being finished in wine barrels. Only 70 barrels of Tennessee-made Bourbon were used for this release, with 2,000 cases available in California, Florida, Kentucky, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, New York, Tennessee, Georgia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Missouri, Connecticut, and Wisconsin for a suggested price of $120 a bottle.
