•Onda Tequila Seltzer has named industry veteran Tom Schlachtenhaufen as president and chief commercial officer. Schlachtenhaufen’s 25-year career includes time with Diageo, Stoli, and High West. Most recently he was EVP of sales at Sagamore Spirit, the rye whiskey owned by Under Armour founder Kevin Plank, where he built and led the commercial organization. Made from a blend of blanco Tequila, sparkling water, and real fruit juice, Onda is at 5% abv and features branding inspired by the surf style of the 1990s.
•Ste. Michelle Wine Estates is introducing 14 Hands Unicorn Rosé Bubbles in bottled format, after the wine gained strong traction out of the gate after launching in cans last year. 14 Hands has created a Unicorn Rosé Rapids pool party themed augmented reality (AR) gaming experience for consumers as part of the launch, which can be accessed by scanning the QR code on the back of the bottle. The Washington state-sourced 14 Hands NV Unicorn Rosé Bubbles bottles are retail priced at $15 a 750-ml.
•Breakthru Beverage Group has appointed Samuel Anderson to vice president, Commercial Excellence, responsible for development and implementation of Breakthru’s core commercial capabilities. He succeeds Chad Stone, who recently was appointed VP, Business Transformation & New Frontiers. In his new role, Anderson, who joined Breakthru in 2010, will oversee “the Master Data Management, Business Intelligence, Sales Tools & Systems, and Analytics & Insights sub-functions to identify and enhance opportunities for improved sales execution and efficiency,” according to the company.
•Casalú, a new rum-based RTD, is set to hit shelves across Miami later this month. The 5.9% abv drink will launch with one flavor, Limón, which is made with dark rum, lemon, natural flavors, and seltzer. Initially, the Miami-based brand will self-distribute the RTD. On its launch, Casalú will be available in 4-packs of 12-ounce cans for a suggested price of $13.
•Waco, Texas-based Balcones Distilling has released the 2022 edition of Mirador, a limited release American single malt whiskey. The barrel strength whiskey is matured in second-fill barrels and blended from whiskies aged between three and five years. Balcones Mirador is available from select retailers across the U.S. and at the Balcones distillery for around $80 a 750-ml.
•Kenyan gin brand Procera has partnered with Martignetti Companies to expand its distribution to Massachusetts. The sugar-cane based gin is made with its namesake species of juniper, native to Kenya, along with pink peppercorn, coriander, and other botanicals sourced from across the continent.
