New Jersey Issues First Adult-Use Licenses, Sales To Begin Soon
April 12, 2022After several delays, New Jersey has licensed seven medical cannabis operators to begin adult-use sales. Yesterday, the state Cannabis Regulatory Commission approved adult-use sales for a total of 13 dispensaries operated by Acreage, Ascend Wellness, Columbia Care, Curaleaf, Green Thumb Industries, TerrAscend, and Verano. Sales are expected to begin in the next few weeks.
Additional licenses are expected to be granted to independent operators looking ahead. In the meantime, the medical players now set to join the adult-use market have pledged that they have enough supply to serve both recreational and medical customers and will make special accommodations for the latter, such as “patients-only” hours and some dispensaries entirely set aside for medical customers.—Daniel Marsteller
