May 24, 2022•ICYMI: Boston Beer Co. will introduce cannabis-infused iced teas under the new TeaPot brand, beginning in the Canadian market in July. TeaPot is the first beverage brand developed by BBCCC Inc, Boston Beer’s cannabis subsidiary. Here’s the full story.
•California cannabis beverage brand Cann is expanding to Arizona. Previously available in California and Illinois, Cann will launch in Arizona with three flavors: Lemon Lavender, Blood Orange Cardamom, and Grapefruit Rosemary. They will be available in retailers including Curaleaf, MedMen, Verano’s Zen Leaf, and others. Additional flavors are set to be announced next month in conjunction with Pride celebrations. Each 12-ounce can contains 2mg of THC and a 6-pack is priced at $24.
•Cannabis marketplace Leafly is launching delivery operations in California and other states that allow delivery services. While one of Leafly’s chief functions has long been listings of dispensaries, customers will now be able to place an order from a dispensary or delivery service within the Leafly website and app.
•Canopy Growth is launching new products across several of its labels. First is Ace Valley, which will release Wappa 3x 0.5g pre-rolled joints in new recyclable and reusable packaging. The brand will also launch new vape cartridge Orange Frosty Live Terp Sauce 1g featuring a blend of live terp sauce extracted from flash-frozen flower. Under the 7Acres name, Canopy is launching two new premium flower offerings: Lemon Zkltz 3.5g and Jack Haze Bubble Hash Infused pre-rolls. The Doja brand is launching new strains Doja Legendary Larry in both flower and pre-roll options; Garlic Chem, available for a limited time only; and Doja 91K 14g, the brand’s first large format release. Finally, Canopy’s beverage brand Deep Space launched new flavors Orange Orbit and The Grape Unknown, both at 10mg of THC per can.
•Judges on the Ninth Circuit Appeals Court ruled unanimously that Delta-8 THC is legal under the terms of the 2018 Farm Bill. Delta-8 is a similar compound to typical THC (more precisely called Delta-9 THC) and possesses mild psychoactive effects. Its legal status has been unclear, because although it has mental effects, it can be derived from hemp containing essentially no Delta-9 THC. Because the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized hemp and hemp derivatives specifically continues to outlaw Delta-9 while defining hemp as “any part of the cannabis plant, including all derivatives, extracts, and cannabinoids that contain less than 0.3 percent Delta-9 THC by weight,” Delta-8 falls within the definition of hemp and is therefore legal, the three judge panel ruled.
