June 6, 2022

•This past Memorial Day Weekend, Cigar Aficionado’s Big Smoke partnered with WhiskyFest for an event that combined superlative cigars and great whiskies at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Whisky Advocate has a full wrap-up of the festivities.

•Constellation Brands’ High West has announced the 2022 release of Rendezvous Rye. This year’s edition leans heavily on High West’s own whiskey and blends together barrels aged between four and six years. It’s bottled at 46% abv and retails for $70 a 750-ml. This year’s bottling features an updated label, bringing Rendezvous in line with High West’s Bourbon and Double Rye releases.

•New Zealand’s Invivo has increased its production capacity to over 2.5 million liters (278,000 cases), and is expanding grape volumes by 153% for 2022. The growth follows a somewhat challenging growing season in New Zealand, with rain affecting vineyards in Hawkes Bay and Marlborough. The saving grace, according to Invivo, was that the Awatere Vineyards held up against the rains quite well. The Invivo facility makes wines for Invivo X, SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker); Graham Norton; and its namesake brand. In addition to expanding production capabilities, the company has named Annette Alvarez-Peters, former head wine buyer for Costco, as its U.S. consulting partner.

•Chicago-based Inspiro Tequila has added a new expression to its lineup. The second release from the company is Inspiro Tequila Rosa Reposado, distilled from 100% Blue Weber agave and aged in oak casks previously used to make rosé. It follows the brand’s first offering, Luna Blanco, released last year. Rosa Reposado is at 40% abv and is available from Inspiro’s website for $79 a 750-ml., with retail availability in Illinois and other select local markets.
