•Russell’s Reserve 13 year old, Booker’s 2022-01 “Ronnie’s Batch,” and newcomers from The Balvenie and Laphroaig are among the offerings featured in Whisky Advocate’s latest weekly roundup. The magazine’s website has all the details.
•Irish Distillers, part of Pernod Ricard has announced Gold Spot, a new addition to the Spot line of Irish whiskies. The new release is a pot still whiskey matured for at least nine years in a combination of Bourbon, Sherry, Bordeaux wine, and Port casks before blending and bottling at 51.4% abv. The whiskey was made to celebrate the 135th anniversary of Mitchell & Son, one of Ireland’s oldest spirits merchants. Gold Spot will be available in the U.S. beginning in mid-July.
•The GlenDronach, a Brown-Forman brand, has released the tenth edition of its cask strength bottling in the U.S. The whisky comes in at 58.6% abv and is made from a blend of single malts matured in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks. The GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 10 is now available nationwide for a suggested price of $100 a bottle.
•California’s O’Neill Vintners & Distillers has launched a new vodka, Saint Javelin, with all proceeds going to support humanitarian aid in Ukraine. The 40% abv vodka is made from a combination of grains and grapes and carries a suggested price of $23 a 750-ml. The spirit’s sales will benefit Razom and, to kick off the fundraising, O’Neill is donating $50,000 ahead of Saint Javelin’s launch. Saint Javelin is set to hit store shelves beginning in the middle of August.
•Indio, California’s Buzzbox cocktails has revamped its packaging, switching over to 250-ml. Tetra Paks. The new packaging comes with a screw-on cap and is 25% larger than Buzzbox’s previous packaging. Additionally, the new Tetra Paks will prominently display the base spirit used in each cocktail. Beyond the revamp, Buzzbox has also launched a new Tequila Paloma cocktail, available in 4-packs of 250-ml. Paks for $13. Finally, the company has partnered with Blue Ridge Wine & Spirits in 10 states across the U.S. while also expanding into three new markets: Arkansas and Rhode Island through Blue Ridge, as well as Missouri.
•Beginning this month, Bardstown, Kentucky’s Lux Row Distillers will stock Ezra Brooks 99 and Rebel 100 in 1.75-liter bottles. Ezra Brooks 99 is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon, charcoal filtered and aged in oak barrels, bottled at 99 proof; it will retail in the new, larger format for $45. Rebel 100 is a wheated Bourbon, bottled at 100 proof, that will retail for $36 for the larger bottle.
