•Sazerac is increasing its presence in Irish whiskey, acquiring the Lough Gill distillery in County Sligo, Ireland, for an undisclosed sum. Sazerac plans to fully develop the 100-plus acre site to create a world-class whiskey facility and visitor attraction. Once complete, Lough Gill will be able to welcome up to 150,000 visitors annually, and will be the brand home for Sazerac Irish whiskies Paddy and Michael Collins, in addition to its own Athrú label. Former Bushmills master blender Helen Mulholland is joining the team at Lough Gill concurrent with the acquisition.

•Sake Hundred, a new brand focused on luxury sakes, has entered the U.S. market, kicking off with four releases. The brand’s flagship sake is Byakko Bespoke, a Junmai Daiginjo that retails for $380 a bottle. The company has also released an oak aged sake, Shirin ($435), which spent two weeks finishing in Mizunara oak. Sake Hundred is also launching a dessert sake in the U.S. with Amairo, retailing for $280. Finally, the brand has released Gengai, a 27-year-old sake that’s seeing an extremely limited release in the U.S. Gengai retails for $3,100 and only 50 bottles will be available in the U.S. Sake Hundred’s portfolio will be available through its website and in the on- and off-premise in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

•Orlando, Florida’s Otherland Society has released Wild Hare Dark Rum, a new spirit from the female led company. Wild Hare, bottled at 45% abv, blends 8-year-old South American and 10-year-old Caribbean rums, and was designed by Marianne Eaves, former distiller at Castle & Key. Wild Hare carries a suggested retail price of $70 a bottle and is available through the brand’s website and in Florida retailers. In the near future, Otherland Society’s co-founder Donia Roberts and her team will work to build a distillery and bottling facility in the Pahokee, Florida region.
