Ethica Expands Piedmont Portfolio With Farinetti’s Casa E. Di MirafioreJune 27, 2022
Miami-based importer Ethica Wines has been named U.S. and Canada importer for Barolo producer Casa E. Di Mirafiore, owned by Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti. Part of the Italian government’s “Historical Brands of National Interest,” Mirafiore became a top Barolo brand in the 19th century under the ownership of Emanuele Alberto Guerrieri, Count of Mirafiore, son of the first King of Italy, but eventually fell prey to the Great Depression.
Over the past decade Farinetti has resurrected the brand, recommencing production of its cru Barolos. The winery obtained its organic certification in 2018, and its U.S. offering now ranges from Dolcetto d’Alba Organic at ($22 a 750-ml.) up through Barolo crus Pajagallo ($115) and Lazzarito ($150), as well as Barolo Riserva ($230), among others.
Ethica’s Piedmont stable also includes Borgogno, Cordero di Montezemolo, Fontanabianca, Villa Sparina, and Scagliola. The importer is targeting sales of about $90 million this year, with the U.S. accounting for 80% of the business.—Daniel MarstellerSubscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
