June 30, 2022•Beam Suntory has appointed Dave Turo as chief commercial officer for the U.S., replacing Carlo Coppola, who was named managing director of the company’s James B. Beam Distilling Co. earlier this week. A 16-year company veteran, Turo was most recently regional general manager, East Geographic Business Unit, Beam’s largest region in the U.S. Turo reports to Beam Suntory North America president Greg Hughes. Beam Suntory also announced Regan O’Kon as vice president, on-premise. O’Kon returns to Beam Suntory after nine years with Campari America, reporting to Turo.
•Brown-Forman has announced Jack Daniel’s Small Batch Special Release Coy Hill High Proof, coming in at the highest proof points ever released by Jack Daniel’s and ranging from 143.6 to 155.1. According to the company, the barrels were discovered last year during the bottling of the 2021 Single Barrel Special Release Coy Hill High Proof but were too high to bottle as a Single Barrel selection. Instead, the barrels were batched together at five different proof points and are being offered in 375-ml bottles available only in Tennessee in very limited quantities, retailing at $55. The whiskey’s mashbill is 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye.
•MPL Brands, owner of agave wine-based cocktail brand Rancho La Gloria, has added Ranch Water to its portfolio. The new addition was originally launched in 2020 by the Texas Ranch Water Co. and is an agave-based hard seltzer at 5% abv. Ranch Water comes in six flavors with Grapefruit, Lime, Tangerine, and Watermelon as the brand’s core, and Pickle Back and Spicy Mango as new seasonal additions to the brand. Ranch Water retails for $19 or $20 a 12-pack of 12-ounce cans and can be found in over 14 states across the U.S.
•Q Mixers has named industry veteran Bob Arnold as CEO. Arnold has held senior roles at Mondelez, Bacardi, Coca Cola, and InBev, and replaces Q Mixers founder Jordan Silbert as chief executive. Arnold is tasked with continuing to grow the premium mixer brand’s footprint, with the company targeting four-fold growth over the next three years as consumers continue to upgrade their mixer options. Q’s range includes carbonated mixers like Ginger Beer, Tonic Water, and Club Soda, among others, as well as Margarita and Bloody Mary mixes.
•Madison, North Carolina’s Midnight Moon has added a new Peach Tea cocktail to its line of canned RTDs. The 8% abv drink is packaged in 12-ounce cans and is the third release in Midnight Moon’s RTD lineup, joining Lightning Lemonade and Watermelon. Midnight Moon’s Peach Tea is initially launching in 15 states across the U.S.; in addition, Lightning Lemonade and Watermelon are now available in 25 states.
