Bardstown Bourbon Co. To Purchase Fellow Kentucky Distiller Green River Spirits

July 1, 2022

Bardstown Bourbon Co., a rising player in the Kentucky Bourbon business, has agreed to acquire Green River Spirits Co. for an undisclosed sum. According to Bardstown, the deal will bolster its custom distilling capacity while expanding its brand portfolio with Green River’s namesake label.

The deal includes Green River’s distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky, the 10th-largest in the state, as well as a state-of-the-art spirits production facility in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to its flagship Green River Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Green River has a contract distilling business producing whiskey, rye, vodka, rum, gin, and flavored whiskey.

Founded in 2014 by Peter Loftin as a custom distiller, Bardstown Bourbon Co. has grown into one of the 10 largest distilled spirits producers nationally, churning out more than seven million proof gallons annually. The company also now markets its own branded whiskies in 20 markets across the U.S. Its Bardstown campus, sitting on 100 acres of farmland, is billed as “the first Napa Valley-style destination on the famed Kentucky Bourbon Trail to combine distilling, culinary, and beverage expertise to create a modern, authentic Bourbon experience.”

In March, Bardstown Bourbon Co. was acquired by Chicago-based Pritzker Private Capital for an undisclosed sum, with the firm investing in the distiller alongside members of the Bardstown Bourbon management team and existing investors.
