Cannabis Briefs for July 5, 2022

July 5, 2022

•Nevada’s Cannabis Compliance Board approved regulations for cannabis lounges, setting the stage for the businesses to join the state’s recreational cannabis industry. The green light will represent a major expansion for the industry as it will allow up to 65 new establishments to open. Nevada’s rules are modeled after bars and proprietors will be able to sell individual servings of cannabis to patrons, unlike some other states that expect patrons to show up with their own products obtained elsewhere. Alcohol, tobacco, and nicotine products may not be sold on the premises and water must be provided for free without request. The regulations drew criticism for high financial barriers to entry like requiring applicants to demonstrate possession of at least $200,000 in liquid assets.

•Canopy Growth is launching a new campaign around its cannabis beverage brands called “Just Hits Different.” With a focus on summer and special occasions, the campaign is composed of digital and social activations as well as a sampling and education program that will roll out to more than 1,400 Canadian cannabis retail locations where non-active samples can be tasted. Additionally, Canopy is adding three new drinks to its portfolio. The Deep Space line will be augmented by Ginger Ale Galaxy, which is carbonated and contains 10mg of THC, while Quebecois consumers will receive Vert Solstice and Vert Eclipse, which contain more CBD and only minimal THC.

•Oakland, California-based Kiva Confections is partnering with Jetty Extracts on a limited-edition line of edibles. Lost Farm Gummies and Chews will offer a collection of 100% live resin-infused edibles containing full-spectrum, strain-specific effects. The collaboration will launch with two products: Honey Apple x Sunshine OG Lost Farm Gummies and Sour Berry x Legend OG Lost Farm Chews. The former is a sativa-dominant strain and the latter is an indica-dominant hybrid strain, both of which are at 10mg of THC per serving and 100mg per package. The collection is available for a limited time at select California dispensaries and via Kiva Direct, priced starting at $22.

•Irvine, California-based cannabis marketing and sales agency Petalfast partnered with Turning Point Brands on its rolling paper brand Zig-Zag. With styles including French Orange, Organic Hemp, Unbleached, and Ultra-thin, Zig-Zag has been a leader in rolling papers for nearly 150 years.
