•Count Lucio Tasca d’Almerita, a leader of Sicily’s wine renaissance who helped to bring the island’s wines to the world stage at his family winery Tasca d’Almerita, died July 25. He was 82. “Lucio Tasca d’Almerita was one of the main protagonists of Sicilian and Italian viticulture,” said Antonio Rallo, CEO of his family’s Donnafugata winery, based in western Sicily. “He was undoubtedly among the first to believe in the potential of our island.” Wine Spectator has more on Tasca d’Almerita’s life and career.

•Napa, California’s Quintessential Wines has added Finger Lakes winery Anthony Road Wine Company to its sales portfolio. The move brings the first New York-based winery into the Quintessential stable. Initially, Quintessential will handle Anthony Road’s 2021 dry and 2020 semi-dry Rieslings; 2021 Chardonnay; 2021 Pinot Gris; and 2021 Cabernet Franc rosé. The initial offerings from Anthony Road retail between $15 and $50 a 750-ml.

•Casa Del Sol Tequila has appointed Scott Blazek as chief growth officer. Blazek served as executive vice president of Breakthru Beverage Nevada for seven years, as well as with Heineken and Diageo. He will be leading the company’s commercial organization, including all sales and distribution, strategy and analytics, reporting to CEO Steph Sebbag and Colbi Corbett, president and COO. The Tequila brand of actress Eva Longoria, Casa Del Sol is imported by Shaw-Ross.
