•Southern Glazer’s has announced the retirement of Steve Harden, executive vice president and general manager, California, effective January 1. A 33-year company veteran, Harden worked in various sales positions of increasing responsibility at Southern Glazer’s, including Northern California general manager and senior vice president and general manager, Northern California. Prior to his most current role, he served as executive vice president, Sales, California. An announcement of Harden’s replacement will be forthcoming.
•Walsh Whiskey’s The Irishman line of Irish whiskies has relaunched with updated packaging across the brand’s entire portfolio. The new look and new bottles were designed by London-based design agency Here and are the result of a $500,000 investment from Walsh Whiskey. Beyond the new tall and tapered bottle, Walsh has renamed the Irishman Founder’s Reserve as the Harvest and has added a Caribbean Rum Cask expression to the Irishman’s core lineup. The Irishman’s redesigned packaging is rolling out now across the U.S. The Irishman is handled in the U.S. by Hotaling & Co. Last year, Walsh Whiskey was acquired by Amber Beverage, part of Stoli owner SPI Group, for an undisclosed sum.
•Beverage e-commerce company Drinks has partnered with internet business platform Shopify. The partnership will introduce a system to allow wineries and beverage alcohol retailers to embed tax and compliance calculations within a Shopify-powered transaction. It will be available to Shopify Plus level merchants at launch through Drinks’ app. The innovation is intended to streamline the parts of beverage sales regulations that can hamper direct-to-consumer sales.
