Demeine Estates Bolsters Italian Range With Chianti Classico’s Mazzei

September 8, 2022

California-based fine wine importer Demeine Estates has announced a new exclusive U.S. partnership with the Mazzei family of Chianti Classico, which will join Cà Romé in Demeine’s Italian stable. Castello di Fonterutoli, the primary estate of the Mazzei family, includes 110 hectares (272 acres) under vine across five different vineyard sites. Demeine will be importing the flagship wines of Marchesi Mazzei, including Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione, the Siepi Toscana IGT, and the Concerto di Fonterutoli Toscana IGT.

Additional wines from Tuscany include Mazzei’s single vineyard Badiolà and Vicoregio 36 Gran Seleziones, as well as the Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo and the Chianti Classico Fonterutoli. From the Mazzei family’s other estates, Demeine will import red and white wines from Maremma and Sicily, and Prosecco from Veneto. Established in 1435, the Mazzei winery remains family owned after 25 generations. Currently, siblings Filippo and Francesco Mazzei serve as managing directors, while Filippo’s son Giovanni is export director.—Daniel Marsteller
