Diageo’s Aviation Gin Opens New Portland Distillery

September 23, 2022

Diageo-owned Aviation gin has officially opened its new distillery in Portland, Oregon. Aviation recently earned Impact “Hot Prospect” honors after quadrupling in size over the past three years to top 100,000 cases, and the company tells SND its solid momentum is continuing so far this year. Diageo acquired the gin label along with the rest of Davos Brands in a deal worth up to $610 million in 2020.

The 33,000-square foot distillery can produce up to 200,000 9-liter cases a year, according to distillery director Hollie Stephenson, giving Aviation significant runway. It also features a tasting room, draft cocktail bar, gift shop, and visitor experience. “We’ve sized the distillery to be able to handle increased demand,” said Stephenson. “We have a really vibrant team of people and are cranking out the gin as fast as we can.”

The distillery, which is opening on a $10 million investment, will now offer educational tours of the distillation process and bottling line, as well as tasting flights and seasonal cocktails. “Knowing how beloved the brand is, we’re excited to invite consumers to explore, sip, and learn about how our premium, uniquely American-style gin is distilled,” said Christina Choi, senior vice president at Diageo. Aviation co-owner Ryan Reynolds released a first-look video of the distillery as it opens to the public.—Daniel Marsteller
