WSWA Honors Industry Legend Ray Herrmann With New H.E.R.O. AwardOctober 4, 2022
Industry legend Ray Herrmann passed away last year at the age of 100. Now, the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) is creating a new award in his honor, sponsored by his former company Breakthru Beverage. An acronym representing some of Herrmann’s signature qualities (Humanitarian, Ethical, Respectful and One-of-a-kind), the H.E.R.O. Award will bestow on one worthy individual $20,000 to donate to a charity of their choice.
“Ray was a great friend and mentor to many in our industry. He worked tirelessly to develop some of the best talent in the industry to ensure a successful, inclusive, and bright future for the beverage alcohol industry,” said WSWA chairman Tom Cole. “The H.E.R.O. Award will allow for Ray’s infectious character to live on and inspire members of our industry for years to come.”
The recipient of the award will be a member of the wine and spirits industry from one of the three tiers: supplier, distributor, or retailer, and must “actively display a character dedicated to philanthropy, helping others, improving community, etc. They must also live a life focused on ethics, integrity, honesty, inclusiveness, and humanity,” WSWA said. An executive selection committee will select the recipient. Those interested in nominating a member of the beverage alcohol industry for the award should email Jo Moak at Jo@wswa.org, and the award will be presented at WSWA’s Access LIVE event taking place April 2-5, 2023, in Orlando, Florida.—Daniel MarstellerSubscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
