News Alert: Campari Takes Stake In Catalyst Spirits

October 27, 2022

Campari Group has acquired a minority equity stake in brand incubator Catalyst Spirits, led by industry veteran Simon Hunt, for an undisclosed sum. The move follows Campari’s recent announcement of the purchase of an initial 15% interest in Howler Head Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey with Natural Banana Flavor, part of the Catalyst portfolio, including global distribution rights and a route to total ownership.

In addition to Howler Head, which is the official flavored Bourbon of UFC, the company’s spirits portfolio includes The Oceanus Hibernicus, a blend of Irish and Scotch malt whisk(e)y, as well as a number of other brands in development.

Catalyst says it’s also on the hunt for “scalable opportunities” with unique brand partners, aiming to leverage its marketing, retail, e-commerce and distributor support to accelerate their growth. Howler Head is currently available in the U.S., U.K. and Canada, with further global expansion planned for next year. In its first full year of operations, Howler Head had volume of 50,000 9-liter cases, boosted by its exposure with the UFC fan base.
