Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes Knighted
January 3, 2023Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes has been named a knight in the U.K.’s New Years Honours for services to business and equality. Menezes joined Diageo in 1997 and has served as CEO since 2013. In bestowing the award the U.K. government noted that Menezes has helped transform Diageo into the world’s leading premium drinks company, accounting for 10% (£2b) of the U.K.’s total food and drinks exports.
The citation called Diageo “one of the world’s leading companies on sustainability, receiving a Double A rating for Water Security and Climate Change,” adding that it’s committed to Net Zero carbon emissions by 2030. Menezes is also credited with boosting underrepresented groups at Diageo, as today 42% of Diageo’s senior leadership positions globally are held by women, while 37% are ethnically diverse. Also, in November 2020, Menezes announced £1 billion of investment in sustainability and community initiatives and to tackle alcohol related harm.—Daniel Marsteller
