Gallo Closes CA Distributor After Upping RNDC Partnership

After strengthening its ties with Republic National Distributing Co. (RNDC) in its home state of California earlier this month, E.&J. Gallo is set to close its direct distribution house in the Golden State. The wine behemoth’s Gallo Sales Co. is shuttering a number of California facilities in March as it transitions its retail chain business to RNDC, which began handling independent retail for Gallo in California in 2021.

California is RNDC’s largest market, just ahead of Texas, with the wholesaler’s California revenues totaling approximately $2.8 billion in 2022, according to Shanken’s Impact Newsletter. In addition to transitioning its former direct distribution business to RNDC, Gallo is also aligned with Wine Warehouse for distribution in California. SND exclusively reported Breakthru’s acquisition of Wine Warehouse, which has revenues of about $800 million, last week.—Daniel Marsteller
