Massachusetts Passes $4 Billion In Rec Sales
January 31, 2023Adult-use marijuana establishments in Massachusetts have surpassed $4 billion in gross sales since the advent of recreational sales in 2018, the state’s Cannabis Control Commission announced. Using data from the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system, the 265 retail locations and 14 delivery businesses there passed the milestone on January 12, just over four years after the first stores opened.
Sales have continued to gain momentum, reaching nearly $1.5 billion in 2022. “Consumers’ demand for tested, quality cannabis products remains strong since Massachusetts became the first East Coast state to open adult-use stores in 2018 and delivery service in 2021,” Commission Executive Director Shawn Collins said. Recreational cannabis sales hover around $3.5 million each weekday in Massachusetts, rising close to $5 million on Fridays and Saturdays.—Danny Sullivan
