February 28, 2023•Provence-based Château La Coste has partnered with Opici Family Distributing for the New York market. The move marks La Coste’s fifth U.S. market, following California, Oregon, and Washington, where the winery is handled by Grape Expectations, and Florida, where Consortium Wine & Spirits distributes the wines. La Coste produces a variety of rosé, white, and red wines and, starting with the 2022 vintage, uses only Demeter certified biodynamically farmed grapes. For the U.S., the winery is emphasizing three wines: Château La Coste Rosé, which retails for around $25; Rosé d’Une Nuit, $20; and La Bulle de La Coste, a sparkling rosé with a suggested price of $30.
•Winebow has been named the exclusive Washington distributor of Barnard Griffin, one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the state, effective this month. With the addition of Washington, Winebow now distributes Barnard Griffin in nine markets, including Washington D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. Winebow is distributing the winery’s Barnard Griffin Signature range, Cotes du Rob, and Gorge Sparkling Wine.
•Shoham, Israel’s Carmel Winery has launched two new red wines in the U.S., creating a new line, Volcano, within the winery’s larger Caramel Signature brand. The new wines, a Merlot and a Cabernet Sauvignon, are made from grapes grown in Upper Galilee and both carry a suggested price of $60 a bottle. Both wines are from the 2019 vintage and matured in French oak for 18 months before another year of bottle maturation. Carmel Winery is part of the Royal Wine Corp portfolio.
•Peroni Nastro Azzurro has entered the non-alc beer market with a new 0.0% offering. The beer is made using the same ingredients as the 5.1% abv flagship and was initially launched in Europe before making its U.S. debut. The brand, part of the Molson Coors portfolio in the U.S., is tapping into a recent trend for non-alcoholic offerings from large international brands. Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% is now available across the U.S.
