Michter’s Addresses Supply Squeeze As 10YO Rye Rolls Out
April 26, 2023Louisville, Kentucky-based Michter’s has announced the release of its 10-year-old rye whiskey and updated its ongoing expansion plans. Michter’s 10 Year Rye carries a suggested price of $200 and will be available in limited quantities across the U.S. The first 10-year-old rye bottling since July 2022, the release comes amid supply constraints across the brand’s portfolio. As previously reported, Michter’s began distilling 24 hours a day in December 2022. Now, Michter’s notes that its updated bottling operations are also online.
While Michter’s portfolio will remain allocated for the foreseeable future, the company’s future plans are built around maintaining quality as supply increases. “We are still quite small compared to many other whiskey companies,” said executive vice president Steve Ziegler. “Our master mistiller Dan McKee and our master of maturation Andrea Wilson decide when specific barrels are aged to their standards and ready to release, and I do my best to spread that whiskey around to our customers. Unfortunately, what we release simply is not enough to meet demand right now, and we are addressing the shortfall without cutting corners.”—Shane English
