Total Wine Cofounder David Trone Enters Race For U.S. Senate Seat

Total Wine & More cofounder David Trone won a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives last fall. Now he’s got his sights set on the upper chamber of Congress, announcing a run for the Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Ben Cardin of Maryland. Trone is the third Democrat to enter the race to replace Cardin.

Trone told the Associated Press that his ability to fund his own campaign makes him a candidate able to focus on core issues without being influenced by donors. Total Wine now has revenues of $5.5 billion and nearly 250 stores nationwide. SND caught up with Trone’s brother and cofounder Robert Trone for an update on the business earlier this year.—Daniel Marsteller
