May 26, 2023•Marchesi Frescobaldi has acquired the Poggio Verrano estate in Maremma Toscana from the Bolla family for an undisclosed sum. Poggio Verrano was established in 2000 by Francesco Bolla. Frescobaldi is already present in Maremma with Tenuta Ammiraglia. Frescobaldi’s other estates include Castello Pomino (Pomino), Castello Nipozzano (Nipozzano), Tenuta Perano (Gaiole in Chianti), Tenuta Castiglioni (Montespertoli), Tenuta CastelGiocondo (Montalcino), Remole (Sieci), Tenuta Calimaia (Montepulciano), and Gorgona, along with Ornellaia and Masseto in Bolgheri, Tenuta Luce in Montalcino, and Attems in the Collio.
•Petaluma, California’s Raeburn Winery, part of the Purple Brands portfolio, has launched its first Cabernet Sauvignon. The new wine is sourced from Sonoma County and bottled at 14% abv for the 2021 vintage. It carries a suggested price of $25 a 750-ml. and is now available for DTC shipping through the brand’s website and in national retailers, including Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, and others. Raeburn grew 14.5% to 208,000 9-liter cases last year, according to Impact Databank.
•Diageo is backing its Loyal 9 cocktail brand with a new campaign. Loyal 9’s “Less Less. More More campaign” encourages young adult consumers to enjoy summer Fridays under the code name “Jury Duty.” It was created in partnership with creative agency No Fixed Address and consists of a series of animated films, digital out-of-home, and influencer and social content. Loyal 9’s portfolio includes Lemonade, Mixed Berry Lemonade, Lemonade + Iced Tea, and Watermelon Lemonade flavors distributed in 4-packs of 12-ounce cans with an abv of 9%, retailing at $13. Diageo acquired the brand in 2021 for an undisclosed sum.
•Monaco Cocktails is debuting a new line of ready-to-drink Margaritas. Rolling out nationwide for $2.50-2.99 a 12-ounce can, the newcomers include Original Lime, Original Watermelon, Spicy Lime, and Spicy Watermelon varieties. They join vodka-based Hard Lemonades, including newly launched Strawberry, as well as canned cocktails Lime Crush, Watermelon Crush, Citrus Rush, and Blue Crush in the Monaco lineup. An Impact “Hot Brand” up 34% to 2.6 million cases last year, Monaco is part of the Atomic Brands portfolio.
