Spirits Growth Slips To 1.8 Percent, Wine Up 4.8 Percent In Latest Scan Data

Wine and spirits volume growth in food and drug stores held roughly steady over the past month, according to SymphonyIRI group, with spirits showing 1.8% growth in the 52 weeks through June 12 (down from 2.1% a month earlier), and wine coming in up 4.8% in 2011 year-to-date through June 12 (against 4.7% growth a month earlier). Craft Beer Boom Propels New Belgium To New Heights

With sales volume of more than 9.1 million (2.25-gallon) cases last year, New Belgium Brewing is the third largest craft brewer in the United States, despite distribution in only half of the country. The brewer of Fat Tire Amber Ale, the Fort Collins, Colorado brewery celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, and expects to enter Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC this summer.
