Craft Brewing And Distilling News for August 23, 2012
August 23, 2012•Columbus, Ohio-based Watershed Distillery is prepping the launch of a limited edition, barrel-aged gin. Made with Watershed’s flagship Four Peel gin brand ($28 a 750-ml.), the new offering is aged in Bourbon barrels for nine to 12 months, infusing the gin’s aromatics and citrus notes with the smoky, woody flavors of a Bourbon. Rolling out early next month, Bourbon Barrel gin will be available at restaurants and liquor stores throughout the Columbus and Cleveland metro areas, priced at around $39.99. In addition to its Four Peel and Bourbon Barrel gins, Watershed also produces an eponymous vodka brand priced at around $25.
•Cleveland’s Great Lakes Brewing Co. will expand into the eastern Pennsylvania market in late September through Reading, Pennsylvania-based All Star Distributing. The company’s year-round brews will be available on draft and at retail, as well as Great Lakes’ “Taster’s Pack” sampler 12-pack. Consumer events and tastings will back the launch. Great Lakes Brewing already had a presence in Central and Western Pennsylvania, as well as Philadelphia, and can be found in a total of 13 states and Washington, D.C. Its range of brews includes Dortmunder Gold Lager, Eliot Ness Amber Lager, Burning River Pale Ale, Commodore Perry India Pale Ale and Edmund Fitzgerald Porter.
•Florida Beer Co. is releasing its fall seasonal offering, Conchtoberfest, in its home market. First launched last year, the popular Märzen-style beer is characterized by a “toasty, malt-forward” flavor and packaged in a cobalt blue bottle. Florida Beer will commemorate the Conchtoberfest relaunch with a brewery celebration on September 6, followed by several beer dinners and Oktoberfest events throughout the state. Florida Beer also produces flagship label Key West—as well as Florida Beer Swamp Ape IPA, Florida Lager, Ybor Gold, Hurricane Reef, La Tropical and Kelly’s Hard Cider—and has a distribution footprint throughout Florida, Virginia, Maryland, New York and Washington, D.C. Based in Melbourne, Florida, the brewer is currently expanding with a new, 60,000-square-foot facility in Cape Canaveral, to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
