September 25, 2012•Comstock, Michigan-based Bell’s Brewing Inc. has rebranded and reformulated its core Bell’s Pale Ale label. Renamed Midwestern Pale Ale, the year-round offering also features a minor recipe adjustment and will now be brewed with a small amount of barley from the Bell’s Farm in Shepard, Michigan. The updated ale will begin shipping in mid-October. Bell’s currently distributes its brews to 18 states and Washington, D.C.
•Pacific City, Oregon’s Pelican Brewing Co. has entered into an agreement for expansion that will allow it to double production capacity. The company has signed a deal with Tillamook, Oregon-based Star Distributors to lease Star’s building on Stillwell Ave. for a new production site. The new brewery—slated to open June 1, 2013—will initially allow Pelican to double production to about 9,000 barrels per year with room for additional growth in the future. A tasting room may be added to the Tillamook brewery at a later date.
•Chicago-based Letherbee Distillers has unveiled its debut seasonal entry, Letherbee Gin Autumnal. The first in the gin brand’s seasonal series, Letherbee Gin Autumnal includes fall- and winter-inspired flavors such as clove, nutmeg and allspice. The new limited edition expression will be available at select retailers and bars in the Chicago metro area. The launch follows the recent rollout of Letherbee’s flagship Letherbee gin brand ($35), which is also available on- and off-premise throughout the Chicago market.
