October 1, 2012•Longmont, Colorado-based Oskar Blues Brewery is set to enter two new markets this fall—Ohio and Kentucky. They have partnered with Stagnaro Distributing for the Cincinnati and northern Kentucky markets and Superior Beverage Group in Columbus and Cleveland. The craft brewer will make all five of its year-round beers available in the new markets in both 4- and 6-packs. The announcement follows Oskar Blues’ expansion into Alabama and Chicago this summer. Oskar Blues will produce about 90,000 barrels this year. The company is also in the middle of opening a new brewery in western North Carolina, slated to begin production this December and expected to produce about 40,000 barrels next year.
•New Orleans-based craft distiller Atelier Vie has released its debut spirit, high-proof vodka brand Buck 25. Billed as a “professional infusion grade” vodka, the 125-proof offering’s higher alcohol content is designed to allow chefs and bartenders to infuse flavors faster and more easily. Currently available at local on-premise accounts and the Atelier Vie distillery, the vodka is slated to launch at retail, priced at around $35-$40 a 750-ml. Founded in 2011 by Jedd Haas, Atelier Vie is also prepping the launch of a new red absinthe brand, Toulouse Red.
•Atlanta’s Sweetwater Brewing Co. is set to launch a new brew, Danktoberfest, to its Dank Tank series. Danktoberfest (8.5% abv) is a high gravity Oktoberfest-style beer, brewed with German Perle and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops and Pilsner, Munich and Cara Munich hops, among others. It will be available in 22-ounce bottles in select markets beginning the first week of October. Sweetwater’s Dank Tank series is a lineup of experimental, rarely released beers that has already included Fresh Sticky Nugs and Ghoulash. The brewer is currently finishing an expansion project that will increase its annual capacity from about 100,000 barrels to nearly 500,000 barrels. Sweetwater’s distribution footprint reaches Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama.
