Southern To Open Direct Warehouse Sales Stores To Service The Trade In Washington

October 1, 2012

Southern Wine & Spirits said today it will open two direct warehouse sales stores in the coming weeks to service licensed retailers in Washington state. Those will include a 3,000-square-foot store in Seattle set to open October 5 and a 2,500-square-foot store in Spokane to open in late October. Southern says the new warehouse stores will provide convenience for its trade customers while offering the same discounts as traditional delivery and avoiding broken-case fees that can be associated with smaller orders.

Southern EVP-general manager Brad Vassar said, “I’m confident that these stores in Washington will be well received by our customers and achieve a level of success similar to our other 21 direct warehouse sales locations around the country, including 13 in California—where we sold approximately 3.5 million bottles in 2011 to over 4,000 customers.”

One of Southern’s key competitors in Washington, Young’s Market, recently opened two “express stores” of its own for licensed trade customers, including locations in Seattle and Tacoma.
