October 4, 2012•St. Louis craft brewer Schlafly Beer is kicking off its new special release IPA series with the rollout of Tasmanian IPA. Made with 100% Australian hops, the 7.2%-abv offering will be available from this month through January. After Tasmanian IPA, Schlafly’s American IPA will follow for the next four months (February-May), while the company’s British-style Export IPA will be available the four months after that (June-September). The special release trio will be available throughout Schlafly’s distribution area, which includes Kansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Missouri. Established in 1991, Schafly Beer brews roughly fifty styles of beer a year, including a portfolio of six year-round offerings, six core seasonals and a variety of specialty and limited edition brews.
•Edwards, Colorado-based Crazy Mountain Brewing Co. has expanded its distribution network to five new states. The new markets include Minnesota (under McDonald Distributing Co.), Ohio (Buckeye Distributing), New Hampshire (Great State Beverage Inc.), Massachusetts (Great State subsidiary Blue Coast Beverage Inc.) and Oregon (Bigfoot Beverage). They join Crazy Mountain’s existing distribution footprint of Colorado, California, Florida and Texas, bringing the brewer’s current reach to nine states. Founded in 2010 in the Vail Valley, Crazy Mountain produces eight year-round beers, including its Crazy Mountain Amber Ale, Lava Lake Wit and Mountain Livin’ Pale Ale labels, among others.
•Seattle’s Elysian Brewing Co. has unveiled a trio of collaborative pumpkin beers, slated to debut at the city’s Great Pumpkin Beer Fest (October 19-20). The first beer, brewed in partnership with Jamie Floyd of Eugene, Oregon’s Ninkasi Brewing, is Hopsquash, a pumpkin IPA made with Sorachi Ace hops. The second, a pumpkin gruit called Oiseau de Nuit, was made in collaboration with Ontario’s Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co., while the last is Avant Gourde, a pumpkin bier de garde created with Tomme Arthur of California-based Lost Abbey/Port Brewing. The new additions join Elysian’s wide array of existing Great Pumpkin Beer Fest brews, including its Nightowl Pumpkin Ale, Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Dark o’ the Moon Pumpkin Stout, Hansel and Gretel Ginger Pumpkin Pilsner and Mr. Yuck Sour Pumpkin Ale, among others.
