Craft Brewing And Distilling News for October 9, 2012
October 9, 2012•D.G. Yuengling & Son is reportedly on the hunt for a new brewery site outside its home market of Pennsylvania. In a recent interview with Harrisburg’s The Patriot News, Yuengling’s president Dick Yuengling Jr. said that although a western Pennsylvania location would be ideal geographically, the state’s current business climate and tax policies are driving the family-owned company to look elsewhere. Yuengling declined to specify the states currently up for consideration, but he did confirm that there were several contenders offering attractive incentives. The company recently told Shanken News Daily it expects to reach 2.8 million barrels this year, up from 2.5 million barrels in 2011.
•Escondido, California’s Stone Brewing Co. has unveiled its latest collaborative brew, the Ken Schmidt/Iron Fist/Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout. Created in partnership with San Diego homebrewer Ken Schmidt—who won Stone Brewing’s 2012 March Madness Homebrew Competition—and Vista, California-based Iron Fist Brewing Co, the 9.6%-abv stout is a recreated version of Schmidt’s winning recipe, brewed with fresh mint leaves, chocolate and East Kent Golding hops. Launched earlier this week in 12-ounce bottles and on draft, Stone Mint Imperial Stout will be available in 18 states.
