October 16, 2012•Hye, Texas-based Garrison Brothers Distillery has expanded distribution of its flagship Bourbon throughout the Texas market. Under the expansion, the craft distiller has released 9,000 bottles of its latest Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey batch to areas including Blanco, Gillespie County, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley, North Texas and West Texas, both on- and off-premise. The whiskey is priced at around $65-$85 a bottle at retail. Founded in 2006, Garrison Brothers Distillery releases two vintages of its Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey each year, including one in the spring—to commemorate Texas Independence Day—and one in the fall. This year’s fall edition is Garrison Brothers’ sixth release of the Bourbon.
•Bend, Oregon-based Deschutes Brewery will enter the Illinois market in January through a partnership with Wirtz Beverage. Deschutes will initially launch Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Chainbreaker White IPA and Black Butte Porter in six-packs and on draft. The partnership marks Wirtz’s first with a craft beer brand in Illinois. Deschutes Brewery, whose beers are currently available in 19 markets, recently added five new 1,300-barrel fermentation tanks to increase capacity with plans to add five more in 2013. Production capacity is expected to increase from the current 250,000 barrels a year to about 460,000 barrels. Deschutes founder Gary Fish recently told Shanken News Daily that a second expansion phase—pushing capacity to 600,000 barrels—is slated to begin in 2014.
•Atlanta’s Sweetwater Brewery has partnered with Dunedin, Florida-based 7venth Sun Brewery to launch the pair’s first collaborative effort, Hand Shandy. A Biere de Garde brewed with black pepper, lemon zest and lemon verbena, Hand Shandy will launch later this week to kick off Dunedin’s first annual Craft Beer & Crab Festival, as well as to commemorate Sweetwater’s recent entry into the Tampa area market. Concurrently, 7venth Sun has announced plans to expand its brewing and tasting room capacity with the installation of new equipment and additional seating. The expansion project is slated to finish by the end of the year. Established in 2011, 7venth Sun is led by president Devon Kreps and vice president/head brewer Justin Stange, both of whom are former Sweetwater Brewery employees.
