Craft Brewing And Distilling News for March 5, 2013

March 5, 2013

•Total shipments from Hawaii’s Kona Brewing Co. were up 27.3% to 220,000 barrels in 2012, bolstered in part by an 18% increase in shipments to its home market. Key growth brands included the brewer’s flagship Longboard Island Lager, which accounted for more than 50% of its total shipment volume, as well as its Big Wave Golden Ale, which joined Kona’s year-round, mainland portfolio—which includes Longboard and Fire Rock Pale Ale—for the first time last year. A subsidiary of Craft Brew Alliance (CBA), Kona Brewing Co. currently has a distribution footprint across 36 states, Japan and Europe.

•Colorado’s Fort Collins Brewery (FCB) is bringing back two limited release seasonal beers this spring—Maibock and For Whom The Belg Tolls. Maibock is made with Munich malts and aged for six months, while For Whom The Belg Tolls is a Belgian ESB. Both brews will be released today at the FCB tasting room for the brewer’s Tap Club members. Maibock will then be made available to the public at the tasting room beginning Wednesday, as well as in 22-ounce bottles in stores and on tap at bars and restaurants. For Whom The Belg Tolls will also be rolled out to select bars and restaurants in Colorado. In addition to distribution across its home state, FCB’s footprint extends into 16 other states across the country.
