•Anderson Valley Brewing and Wild Turkey Bourbon are extending their Bourbon-barrel-aged beer venture beyond draft and into a bottled format for wider distribution. Anderson Valley Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout debuted on draft last fall. Now it will be packaged in 22-ounce bottles as well for distribution to California, New York, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Massachusetts, Colorado, Kentucky, Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and New Jersey, hitting shelves by the end of June. According to Anderson Valley owner Trey White, the Bourbon Barrel Stout is “just the beginning” of the partnership between his company and Wild Turkey. “We look forward to exploring new frontiers in barrel-aged craft beer,” he said.

•Ohio governor John Kasich has signed a bill creating a new liquor permit category for breweries making less than 31 million gallons annually. The newly-established permit, called an A-1c, will lower the annual licensing fee for qualifying brewers from around $3,900 to $1,000. Another provision of the same bill has raised the ire of Anheuser-Busch, which publicly criticized language prohibiting larger brewers from henceforth owning or having a financial stake in wholesale distributors. Anheuser-Busch, which operates a brewery in Columbus, also owns a Canton-based distribution business and says that while it’s disappointed in the legislation, its discussions with the governor and lawmakers yielded “positive assurances to address the issues that significantly impact our investments in the state.”
