July 1, 2013•San Francisco-based Anchor Distilling Co. has added Sweden’s Karlsson’s Gold vodka to its U.S. import portfolio. A single-distilled, handcrafted potato vodka, Karlsson’s will be available nationwide starting August 1, priced at around $30 a 750-ml. The Swedish vodka brand joins recently-launched Hophead vodka, as well as The Glenrothes, BenRiach and Glendronach single malt Scotches, No. 3 Gin, Pink Pigeon Liqueur, Hirsch Bourbon and Chinaco Tequila among others in Anchor’s growing spirits portfolio. Anchor told SND earlier this year it expects to surpass the 100,000-case mark in 2013.
•BJ’s Restaurants has opened a new large-format brewhouse restaurant in Eugene, Oregon. The new BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse comprises 8,500 square feet, includes seating for about 270 guests and features an extensive BJ’s menu with deep-dish pizza and the company’s selection of proprietary craft beers. The new location replaces a smaller, older BJ’s Pizza and Grill location that was opened in 1997. BJ’s currently owns and operates 134 locations across 15 states under the BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, BJ’s Pizza & Grill and BJ’s Grill brand names. The company plans on opening 12 additional restaurants before the end of fiscal 2013.
•Stevens Point, Wisconsin-based Ciderboys Cider Co. has introduced a new hard cider to its lineup, Raspberry Smash. The apple-raspberry flavored offering will be available in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles and on draft across the Ciderboys distribution footprint, centered on the Midwest. Raspberry Smash is the sixth extension to be added to the Ciderboys lineup of gluten-free ciders, which also includes First Press traditional hard cider, Magic Apple, Cranberry Road, Mad Bark and Peach County.
