Vinexpo Foreign Visitor Numbers Set New Record

Some 48,858 people from 148 countries visited the Vinexpo wine and spirits trade exhibition in Bordeaux, held during the third week in June. The total represented a 1.5% increase from the previous Vinexpo in 2011. While the number of French visitors remained stable, non-French visitors increased by 3% to 18,462, comprising 37.8% of the total and setting a new record.

China led with 3,388 professionals and became Vinexpo’s largest non-French visitor, up 13.9% from 2011. Japan was well represented with 427 visitors, up 17.63%. Other Asian nations also showed strong growth, with India up 32.7%, Taiwan up 4.5%, Vietnam up 20.4% and Malaysia up 21.1%.

The U.S. was Vinexpo’s second-largest international presence with 1,433 visitors. The fourth, fifth and sixth-largest visitor countries at Vinexpo 2013 were U.K. with 1,418, Belgium with 1,132 and Germany with 1,073. Visitors from France accounted for 62.2% of the total and represented all sectors of the industry, inclding wholesalers, hyper- and supermarket buyers, restaurateurs, sommeliers and specialist retailers.

The show had 2,400 exhibitors from 44 countries, with stands that covered a total floor area of 430,500 square feet.
