Diageo Launches Modernized 31-Million-Case Bottling Center In Illinois

August 7, 2013

Diageo North America has reopened its Plainfield, Illinois-based bottling center following completion of a $120 million project that saw its annual capacity rise to 31 million cases. The project, which kicked off in 2011, included installation of three high-speed bottling lines, a new production area able to accommodate new-to-world and small-batch products and updated packaging machines. With the upgrades, the facility now has the capacity to bottle a broader range of leading brands, including more Smirnoff vodka flavors.

First built in 1966, the Plainfield site has received numerous expansions and updates over the years, such as the addition of a brand technical center in 2001 and a bottling area for malt drinks in 2009, among others. The facility’s most recent renovation is part of a $250 million investment Diageo has dedicated to improving its North American manufacturing network since 2010.
