North America Drives Global Cognac Sales Rise
August 14, 2013Global Cognac sales increased 7.3% to €2.44 billion ($3.24b) for the 12-month period ended July 31, according to the Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac trade group. Driven by a rise in sales of higher marques, the value growth occurred despite a 1.1% volume decline in the same period, to 166.6 million bottles.
North America emerged as the category’s fastest-growing market, increasing 9.7% to 53.4 million bottles. Other major growth markets included Asia—which accounted for more than one-third of sales and rose 8.9%—and Eastern Europe, which rose 5.6%, helping to offset losses in Western Europe.
