Craft Brewing and Distilling News for January 6, 2013

January 6, 2014

•The Grand Canyon Brewing Company is moving to a larger production facility to keep up with demand for its beer since expanding into the Nevada market and increasing its retail presence. Since opening in 2007, the brewery has been operating out of its current 6,000-square-foot space along historic Route 66 in Williams, Arizona, and in 2013 was brewing just under 6,000 barrels of beer. The new $2.7 million production facility will still be located in Williams at 27,000 square feet and will be capable of producing roughly 40,000 barrels once completed. The expansion, expected to begin in May 2014, will allow the brewery to move into new states such as California, New Mexico and Colorado.

•Paso Robles, California-based Firestone Walker Brewing Co. has released the 2014 vintage of §ucaba, a barrel-aged English barley wine. First created in 2006 and currently part of the brewer’s limited-production Proprietor’s Vintage Series, the 13.5%-abv entry is made with Bravo and East Kent Golding hops and barrel-aged in Bourbon casks for an average of one year. A limited quantity of 3,500 cases of §ucaba will be available across 16 markets, priced at around $16.99 a 22-ounce bottle. §ucaba is joined in the Proprietor’s Vintage lineup by Firestone Walker’s Double Jack Double IPA, Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA and Walker’s Reserve Porter, all of which are aged in oak for at least a year.
