February 14, 2014•New York’s T. Edward Wines has added California-based Craft Distillers to its spirits portfolio. Specializing in heritage offerings, Craft Distillers’ stable includes the Germain-Robin brandy, Low Gap whiskey, Fluid Dynamics barrel-aged cocktail and Destileria Los Danzantes mezcal labels, among others. T. Edward will distribute the Craft Distillers lineup throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The new additions join Industry City Distillery, Owney’s Original small batch rum, Roundhouse Spirits, Tatoosh Distillery and Dark Horse Distillery in T. Edward’s existing spirits stable.
•New York-based Ithaca Beer Co. has launched Green Trail Easy-Drinking India Pale Ale, a new year-round entry. Created to complement the brewer’s popular, hop-heavy Flower Power India Pale Ale, Green Trail blends strong hop notes with a smoother malt body, resulting in a more approachable taste profile. The 6%-abv brew is slated to debut at the Ithaca Beer tasting room onFebruary 20, followed by a wider rollout in March. Green Trail joins Flower Power, Pale Ale, Nut Brown, Cascazilla and Apricot Wheat Ale in Ithaca Beer’s year-round lineup, which is currently distributed across New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Connecticut.
•Clifton Park, New York-based Shmaltz Brewing has partnered with Beer House Distributors of Kentucky to enter that market for the first time. Beer House will further contribute to Shmaltz’s regional retail presence and draft availability of its craft line He’brew — The Chosen Beer. The brewery’s expanded distribution footprint follows the opening of a new 20,000-square-foot brewing facility in Clifton Park with an increased staff of 20 employees. Shmaltz estimates annual sales for 2014 to be around $4 million.
•Paso Robles, California’s Firestone Walker Brewing Company opened its new “keg shed” this week, a building next to its current brewing facility featuring a keg line that will triple the brewery’s output. The new dual state-of-the-art system runs at almost three times faster than the previous one and allows for 18 kegs at a time to go from cleaning to filling. The previous keg line located within the brewery cellar is being removed, freeing up cellar space that will now be filled by Firestone Walker’s patented oak barrel fermentation system.
