Craft Brewing and Distilling News for May 20, 2014
May 20, 2014•Oregon-based Portland Brewing has reintroduced Oregon Honey Beer, a summer seasonal made with white clover honey, 2-Row Pale malt and Willamette and Nugget hops. The 4.8%-abv brew is available in Washington and Oregon in 22-ounce bottles, 12-ounce six-packs and on draft through August 15. Portland Brewing’s other labels include year-round offerings like Zigzag River Lager and Mactarnahan’s Amber Ale, as well as seasonals like Noble Scot and Blackwatch Cream Porter.
•San Diego’s Green Flash Brewing has reformulated its core West Coast IPA and Hop Head Red expressions. The updated version of West Coast IPA now includes an addition of Citra hops, while both West Coast and Hop Head have received extra dry hopping, increasing their abv to 8.1%. According to Green Flash, the recipe changes were made in response to rising consumer demand “for flavorful and extreme IPAs.” The reformulations follow the brewer’s recent packaging revamp, which began rolling out across its 48-state footprint in April.
