June 12, 2014

•San Francisco, California’s Anchor Brewing Company has released its seasonal Anchor Summer Beer, a light American-style filtered wheat beer. Released each year for summer, Anchor Summer Beer (4.5% abv) is an all-malt brew—with more than half of its malt coming from malted wheat—which is made with a traditional top-fermenting ale yeast. The seasonal offering is available nationwide through August on draft, six-packs of 12-ounce bottles and in 22-ounce bottles.

•California-based Mavericks Brewing has partnered with Southern Wine & Spirits to debut its craft beer portfolio in Northern California this month. Mavericks will initially launch its three existing offerings, which include the Mavericks Belgian Style Wit, Rye Pale Ale and Chocolate Porter, all at an abv of 3.75%. The trio will be available in canned six-packs and 1/2-barrel and 1/6 barrel kegs across both retail and on-premise accounts. Specializing in craft brews with relatively low alcohol content, Mavericks Brewing’s offerings are currently produced at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Co.

•Portland, Oregon-based Breakside Brewery is bringing back its Passionfruit Sour summer seasonal in 22-ounce bottles and on draft. A sour ale with hints of tropical fruit, the 4.4%-abv offering is brewed as a traditional German Berliner weisse with passion fruit added to the lagering tanks. Passionfruit Sour ($6) is available from June through late August in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Hawaii and Japan. Breakside’s other 22-ounce bottled offerings include its Pilsner, IPA, Alan From The Wood and Wanderlust IPA.
