Craft Beer Production Up 18% In First Half Of 2014, Says Brewers Association

July 29, 2014

U.S. craft brewers increased production by 18% in the first six months of 2014, from 9 million barrels in the first half of 2013 to 10.6 million barrels through June, reports the Brewers Association trade group. Additionally, the number of craft breweries operating in the U.S. grew nearly 20% over the same period, from 2,538 to more than 3,000.

According to Brewers Association chief economist Bart Watson, the segment’s double-digit gains underscore the “ongoing localization of beer production” in the U.S. The Brewers Association defines a craft brewer as an independent and traditional player producing 6 million barrels of beer or less annually.
