Seghesio Expands With Russian River Vineyard Buy

October 29, 2014

Healdsburg’s Seghesio Family Vineyards, part of the Crimson Wine Group portfolio, has acquired 24-acre Montafi Ranch Vineyard in the Russian River Valley for an undisclosed sum. Located just outside the Santa Rosa city limits, Montafi is planted primarily to Zinfandel. 13 acres of the varietal were planted there in 1916. The seller was Silverado Sonoma Vineyards, LLC.

The new holding will join Seghesio’s existing 300 acres, which are spread across the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys and all contribute to Seghesio’s Sonoma, Home Ranch, Cortina, Old Vine and Rockpile Zinfandels. In the near term, Seghesio plans to continue to sell some fruit from Montafi to Carlisle Winery, which produces its Montafi Ranch Zinfandel from the site.
