Peter Cressy To Step Down As DISCUS CEO
March 5, 2015Peter Cressy has announced he will step down as CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) at the end of 2015, a position in which he’s served for 16 years. A search committee headed up by DISCUS vice chairman and Moët Hennessy USA CEO Jim Clerkin and including Cressy will begin a national search for a replacement in the near future, the trade group said.
During Cressy’s tenure, supplier revenues more than doubled from $10.7 billion annually to over $23 billion, according to DISCUS. The organization also noted that under Cressy’s leadership, market access and consumer convenience improved, with Sundaysales passed in 17 states and liberalized tasting laws passed in 35 states. Other major DISCUS initiatives under Cressy included the expansion of TV advertising acceptance by all major broadcast networks, sponsorship agreements with professional sports leagues and new guidelines for industry marketing in social media.
