Craft Brewing and Distilling News for March 12, 2015
March 12, 2015•San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Company has introduced Flying Cloud San Francisco Stout as the first offering in its Anchor Argonaut Collection. The dark Dublin-style stout (7.4% abv) is made with English Maris Otter pale malt, two black malts and flaked barley with Nugget and Golding hops for spicy, floral notes, the company says. Flying Cloud originally debuted in January 2013 as part of the brewery’s experimental Zymaster series. It is now available nationwide for a limited time in four-packs in the Argonaut Collection, which pays homage to the pioneers of the California Gold Rush and marks the first time since 1971 that Anchor is releasing beers in four-packs.
•Longmont, California-based Oskar Blues is rolling out Pinner Throwback IPA in six-packs of 12-ounce cans nationwide. The launch follows the release of Pinner in mixed 12-packs of cans and on draft. The dry-hopped brew (4.9% abv) features a tropical, stone fruit aroma and hints of pine, the company says. In February, Oskar Blues released Pinner nationwide in a mixed 12-pack, which also includes hop-forward Dale’s Pale Ale, Mama’s Little Yella Pils and Old Chub Scotch Ale. The Pinner six-packs are priced in line with other Oskar Blues six-packs.
•Clifton Park, New York-based Shmaltz Brewing has added Slingshot American Craft Lager to its year-round portfolio. Rolling out in 12-ounce bottle six-packs this month, Slingshot will initially be available across New York, Illinois, Texas and Iowa before expanding its reach to 37 states in May. The 5.3%-abv entry joins the Hop Mania IPA, Death Of A Contract Brewer and Bittersweet Lenny’s RIPA labels, among others, in Shmaltz’s core craft beer lineup.
•Chicago-based Haymarket Brewing Co., which launched in 2010, is expanding to Michigan with plans to build a production facility in the town of Bridgman in the southwest corner of the state. The new plant, which will have a canning line, will boost Haymarket’s capacity from its current 2,000 barrel limit to 20,000 barrels after it opens in the spring of 2016, and allow more space for a barrel-aging program. The Bridgman facility will include a 100-seat taproom and restaurant serving up wood-fired pizza and house-made sausages as well as an outdoor beer garden for hosting special events. Haymarket also expects to expand its distribution beyond Illinois and Michigan soon.
