Craft Achieves Double-Digit Volume Share Of Beer Market For First Time
March 17, 2015The Brewers Association reports that craft brewers reached an 11% volume share of the U.S. beer market in 2014, cracking double digits for the first time. U.S. craft beer production rose 18% to 22.2 million barrels last year, while retail value increased 22% to $19.6 billion, for a 19.3% value share of the beer category.
The number of operating breweries in the U.S. grew 19% last year to 3,464, including 1,871 microbreweries, 1,412 brewpubs and 135 regional craft breweries. Some 615 new breweries opened in 2014, while 46 closed. The Brewers Association, which claims to represent 70% of the brewing industry, aims to reach a 20% volume share by 2020.
