Concannon Eyes Premium On-Premise Presence With New Founder’s Tier
April 2, 2015Concannon Vineyard managing director John Concannon tells SND he sees the winery’s new Founders’ Tier as a way to premiumize its image and amp up its presence in the on-premise. The wines, which are debuting this month, include a 2013 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, a 2013 Monterey County Chardonnay and a 2013 San Francisco Bay Petite Sirah. The on-premise retail pricing will be between $40-$60, and by-the-glass tasting programs will see it priced at $10-$14.
Up until now Concannon (part of The Wine Group) has mainly sold wines priced at $12 and less, though a few hundred cases of its reserve wines (available only at the winery’s tasting room and to club members) have been priced as high as $60. There will be 10,000 cases of the Founders’ Tier available overall.
“This is a totally new price point for us as we work to premiumize our brand,” said Concannon. “It’s also the first time I’ve worked to source fruit from Paso Robles and Monterey.” He added that the company may extend the Founders’ products to off-premise accounts after evaluating the reception in bars and restaurants in the coming year.
